[ewell type=””]
[eiconheading type=”h4″ style=”fa fa-thumbs-o-up”] Rule of Thumb[/eiconheading]
Join a rebates site & use it as much as possible whenever you shop online to earn cash back![/ewell]

There are a couple different online rebates sites for Canadians but I use [eicon type=”fa fa-external-link” color=”#340035″] and I think it’s the best one out there currently.  It’s free and they are in partnership with many retailers online. You can get anywhere between 1%-20% cash back when you order through Ebates!  All you have to do is search up the retailer you want to shop at, click-through to the site, & start shopping!  Ebates will automatically track your purchases & rebate amount…and you’ll get a “Big Fat Cheque” of all your rebates every 3 months in the mail!

[eicon type=”glyphicon glyphicon-search” fontsize=”30″] SHOPPING COMPARISON SITES

If you want to compare similar items from different stores or want to keep tabs on price changes for the items on your wishlist, use shopping comparison sites to save you some time.  Here are my top picks:

[custom_list icon=”shopping-cart” iconcolor=”#340035″]

  • Shoptoit: Searches Canadian and also US sites that ship to Canada.
  • ShopBot: From my experience, this site seems to only search Canadian stores.
  • Google Shopping: Doesn’t search Canadian stores but does a very thorough US search so worth a look if you are open to shopping from US sites.
  • Shop it to me: Not a traditional comparison site, but a very useful aggregate tool to keep track & send you updates on sales from your favourite brands & retailers.

[eicon type=”glyphicon glyphicon-envelope” fontsize=”30″] EMAIL SIGN-UPS

[ewell type=””][eiconheading type=”h4″ style=”fa fa-thumbs-o-up”]Rule of Thumb[/eiconheading]
Opt-in to receive email newsletters from your favourite retailers.[/ewell]

I say “favourite” because I know we all hate spam, but retailers often give exclusive sale previews, discount codes, and special offers through emails.  On certain sites you can also change the settings on when, how often, and what kind of emails you want to receive.

[su_highlight background=”#fefea6″]*Additional Tip*[/su_highlight] Pick a couple of sites you shop on more often and try to track their discounting behaviors by monitoring the emails they send.  Most retailers tend to have a pattern to the discount percentages they give in a period of time. So you might be able to decipher when during the week/month/season a store will most likely give higher discounts.
